About us

The China Strategic Risks Institute is a global policy think tank providing cutting edge analysis of the risks posed by China’s rising authoritarianism in the twenty-first century. We operate as a non-profit, non-partisan organisation.

The Rise of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is arguably the most significant foreign policy challenge of the twenty-first century. With a population of 1.4 billion people and the second largest economy, engaging with the PRC necessary and unavoidable.

The slow awakening to this reality has been accompanied by an increasingly polarised policy debate in democratic capitals — framing debates as a zero-sum choice between “standing up for our values” versus “economic opportunity”.

By analysing the debate in terms of risk, CSRI hopes to contribute towards a broader and more nuanced discussion. Our risk framework can be applied across economics, politics, security, ethics and more, and provides a common language understood by governments, businesses and citizens alike.
